Last Saturday, I headed down to Franklin, TN, just south of Nashville, to the annual Franklin Main Street Festival. My objective was to seek out the Garnier Cleaner Greener World Tour bus so that I could see for myself what this tour was all about.
And let me tell you, that place was hoppin’! They had people handing out samples, taking pictures and guiding guests through the tour. You see, the tour bus is actually a kind of mobile museum (and laboratory, as you’ll see later)! Inside the bus there is all kinds of information about Garnier and their new Pure Clean line of hair care products.
After you go through the tour, you can make a Pure Clean Pledge and have your picture taken to go on the Garnier Facebook page.
And you may remember from this post, that Garnier has teamed up with TerraCycle to give people ways to recycle used personal care and beauty products. There was a huge box set up in front of the bus for people to put items in for recycling.
I also got to meet-up with One2One Network member, Brigid!
And the probably the most ingenious part of the whole set-up was the the mobile laboratory inside the bus! Inside the laboratory, you could take hair samples and wash them using the actual Pure Clean shampoo and conditioner. Plus, a helpful lab assistant was on hand to give all the reasons why Pure Clean is good for your hair and good for the environment. (Just so you know, the video is completely unedited.)
Also, a goldfish mascot. Fun!
The Garnier Cleaner Greener World Tour bus is currently in Ft. Worth, TX and will be continuing on to Detroit and New Orleans later this month! If you are in those areas, I would highly encourage you to head over there and see the tour yourself. It’s fun and informative!
One-third of all landfill waste is comprised of personal care and beauty products. One-third! Think about that, one-third of what is going into landfills is shampoo bottles, hairspray bottles, lipstick tubes, deodorant sticks, toothpaste tubes and more. Now Garnier, who is known for making quality haircare products, and TerraCycle, who is known for turning trash into treasures, are teaming up to help reduce the amount of personal care and beauty product packaging that finds it way into landfills.
We’re excited to bring news of The Cleaner Greener World Tour to you!The Cleaner Greener World Tour will be making stops in several cities throughout the U.S. to collect personal care and beauty product packaging. The tour starts April 11 in New York City and will continue on to five more U.S. cities. The purpose of The Cleaner Greener World Tour is to “educate consumers to think differently about waste, and to learn simple ways to make a positive impact on the environment”. At each stop on the tour, participants will have the opportunity to bring items for recycling, experience the interactive tour bus, try out Garnier’s new line of Pure Clean hair care and learn more about being part of TerraCycle’s Personal Care and Beauty Brigade.
Last month, Garnier began the first phase of a two year initiative to bring environmentally sustainable products to their customers. Fructis shampoo and conditioner, Fructis Style grooming and style products, Nutrisse haircolor, HerbaShine haircolor and Garnier skincare will all be getting “green” makeovers.
The first product set to debut is Garnier Fructis Pure Clean. “Pure Clean shampoo (94% biodegradable) and conditioner (92% biodegradable) are non-ecotoxic and leave behind less residue and suds. The weightless formulas contain no silicone, paraben or dye. The shampoo and conditioner bottles are also made of PET, the most widely recycled plastic, and include 50% post consumer recycled plastics.” Additionally, the packaging includes tips on water conservation (shorten those showers!) and encouragement to recycle the bottles once they are empty.
Join the TerraCycle BrigadeThe Personal Care and Beauty Brigade is a worldwide partnership of individuals and groups who collect packaging and ship it to TerraCycle. The brigade will also help recruit new members and educate their communities on the importance recycling this kind of packaging (remember that 1/3 number!) The benefit of being a brigade member is two-fold, “for every unit of waste collected, Garnier will contribute two cents to the charity of the individual’s choice. As part of a larger corporate responsibility program, TerraCycle will repurpose all collected personal care and beauty packaging, reusing it to build eco-friendly playgrounds across the U.S.”
First, if you are in any of The Cleaner Greener World Tour cities, please go by and support the tour by bringing in personal care and beauty product packaging to be recycled! Second, join the TerraCycle Brigade. And third, help us spread the word!
